The Hollows Camp
The Hollows Camp offers a co-ed residential program with over 15 exciting sports and arts activities to both challenge and engage young people in an atmosphere of encouragement. We are perhaps best known for our excellent equestrian facilities and English riding program. This is because the Fine family has been raising and training horses here at our stables in Cookstown, Ontario for over 40 years. As equestrian professionals, we own and maintain our horses and ponies, and we teach riding throughout the year. As such, we know all of the animals in our program well because we work with them everyday. This allows us to match safe and appropriate horse and rider combinations to a wide range of skill levels and thereby achieve quality results. Additionally, camp is a phenomenon that builds positive personal and social development within young people. Dr. Stephen Fine and Janet Fine are the founders and current directors of The Hollows Camp. Their philosophical outlook emphasizes the discovery of personal autonomy and self-regulation within the stress free atmosphere of a camp community that promotes interdependence and mutual respect. Camp is an educative experience beyond the normative routine of school life in that it allows for interaction between young people and adults that transcends age and skills barriers and encourages learning on personal, socio-cultural and environmental levels.
